The service

Sumbo is a free, browser-based multiplayer trivia game. It runs as-is, with no service-level commitments and no guaranteed availability. Outages, bugs and breaking changes happen — we work to keep them rare, but we can't commit to a fixed uptime.

How you can use it

Play the game in good faith with friends. Don't use Sumbo to harass, deceive or harm other players; don't pick player names that are abusive, hateful or impersonate someone else.

Don't try to disrupt the service — automated scraping, brute-forcing room codes, denial-of-service attempts, attempting to access non-public parts of the system, or interfering with other players' matches are all out of scope of acceptable use.

Sumbo questions come in part from third-party sources licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0 (see the about page). You can reuse and redistribute those questions under the same license; the rest of the site (designs, code, branding) is not under that license and is reserved.

No warranty

Sumbo is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. This is standard "use at your own risk" language for a free service.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Sumbo's operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages arising out of your use of the service. Where local law (including UK consumer rights law) gives you protections that cannot be excluded by contract, those protections still apply.

Changes

We may update these terms — material changes will be announced on the homepage and the "last updated" date will move. If you keep using Sumbo after a change, you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be brought in the courts of England and Wales, subject to any non-waivable rights you have where you live.

Frequently asked questions

Can I embed Sumbo on my site?

Linking to Sumbo or to a specific quiz page is fine. Wrapping Sumbo in an iframe on your own site is not currently supported and isn't something we permit by default — get in touch if you have a use case.

Can I use the question content elsewhere?

Imported questions (from OpenTDB and OpenTriviaQA) are CC BY-SA 4.0 and can be reused under that license. The rest of Sumbo (branding, code, original questions) is not under CC BY-SA.

What if I have a complaint?
